blog post (1)

I thought Robert Morris' article The Present Tense of Space was an interesting read. It was a little difficult for me at first to mentally visualize his perspective examples, but by physically focusing my eyes on a particular object, then the spatial room, I was able to understand his comment about a "polarity between sculptural and architectural experience.  I also agree with his idea that the white space of a gallery room has a spotlight effect on sculpture. As a three dimensional form placed in a white space, the distractions are very limited. However, I believe that this placement of sculpture in a white wall gallery only works with certain pieces and is not an absolute rule. Considerations such as the intention of the artist and historical context (if there is any) should be a important consideration as to where the sculpture is best displayed.
